Tick fever in dogs is a type of high fever that commonly occurs by ticks or ectoparasites.

DEFINITION : Tick fever in dog is a bacterial disease which is spread through bacteria such as rickettsia ricketti. It is spread through after biting of American dog tick, Rocky mountain dog tick, Brown tick. This condition is treatable in early stages. Basic symptoms of this disease high temperature and ectoparasites ( ticks ) on dog body.

Tick fever in dogs is not a contagious ( spreading ) but transmitted from infected tick. Infected tick spread it in healthy pets.

Some time tick fever seen in human also but not have any evidence of it. There is no any case which found in human of tick fever.

Surely there is increase in temperature of body of dogs so we have to take care of your dog and save your dog from this disease.

Etiology/Reason/Cause :

RICKETTSIA RICKETTI OR ECTOPARASITES

Symptoms :

  1. High fever.
  2. Anorexia ( loss of appetite or off feed ).
  3. Arthritis ( Inflammation of joints ).
  4. Vomiting.
  5. Diarrhea.
  6. Facial or limb swelling.
  7. Coughing.
  8. Difficulty in breathing.
  9. Abdominal pain.
  10. Enlarged lymph nodes.
  11. Itching on spot ( tick spot ).

Diagnoses of tick fever : Take your dog to nearby vet for proper diagnoses and treatment. Your vet will examine symptoms of tick fever. Urinalysis, X-ray and blood examination.

Blood test may include low platelet count, anemia, abnormal white blood cell.

Treatment of tick fever : For treatment consult with your nearby vet for proper diagnoses.

TREATMENT IN FOLLOWING STEPS :

1.ANTIBIOTICS ( DOXYCYCLINE, TETRACYCLINE, MONOCYCLINE ETC. )

2.FLUID THERAPY ( DNS OR RL ) OR I/V FLUIDS.

Prognosis : I recommended you take him to nearby vet for proper diagnoses and treatment early as possible. Because treatment of tick fever is successful in early stages. It very difficult to treat dog in chronic situation.

RESULTS ARE VERY POOR IN CHRONIC CONDITION

Protection : 1. By controlling ticks on dog body – protect your dog from ticks by using certain methods like shampoo and other tick removal procedures. Take him to nearby vet if ticks are more in numbers. Ticks suck the blood sometimes causes anemic to dog. Brown ticks are main type of tick that encourage tick fever in dogs.

2.By deworming – Deworming is the only way to protect your dog from ecto and endo parasites. Follow schedule of deworming in dogs.
