Parvo virus is a viral disease that commonly affects your dog. It is also known as Canine parvo or CPV.

It is contagious in nature. Basic symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, lack of appetite, weight loss.

CANINE PARVO

It is contagious in nature or highly spread from affected dogs to healthy dog. Such as infected one to healthy one.

Undoubtedly Prevention is the only solution of this deadly disease. as a result of it is known as parvo virus disease.

IT MOSTLY OCCUR IN PUPPIES.

THE PET VISION

There are two form of canine parvo virus :

1.Enteric form.

2.Myocardial or heart form.

Clinical symptoms of enteric form of this virus :

  1. Congestive heart failure.
  2. Sudden depression.
  3. Fever in puppies.
  4. Diarrhea ( Loose motion ).
  5. Vomiting.
  6. Dysentery ( blood in feces or poop ).
  7. Fast dehydration.
  8. Death and shock.

Clinical symptoms of Myocardial and Heart form :

  1. Mucus membrane turns into pale color.
  2. Difficulty in breathing.
  3. Depression or stress.
  4. Deep cough.
  5. Death at 12-16 weeks of age.
  6. Ascites ( abdominal effusion ).

Sudden death from myocarditis occurs in a very young puppies.

Susceptible species are :

  1. Rottweilers.
  2. American pit bull terrier.
  3. Doberman.
  4. Pinschers and German shepherd are more susceptible.

Mortality rate is high in this disease ( Death rate ).

TRANSMISSION : Contact with infected stool, usually by eating – through feeding utensil, by licking infected dogs.

This virus can survive for up to 12 month in feces. The virus is also present in urine.

This virus spread directly by contaminated fecal matter such as shoes, plastic things, hands, equipment so that it can transmit easily.

Prevention is the only way of saving your dog from this deadly disease.

CONTROL :

It can be controlled by canine parvo vaccine even so in infected dogs.

Vaccination is the only way to prevent your dog from this disease therefore vaccinate your puppy in proper time and schedule.

Treatment of Enteric form :

In this case no any fixed treatment of this disease. But in case of enteric form we should have to give him/her supporting care by giving medication such as :

Few antibiotics ( Amoxicillin or Intacef ) Surely in the form of injection.

As a result use only one antibiotic.

Fluid therapy ( DNS / RL ).

Inj. Pantop, inj Aciloc.

Inj. Metrogyl.

Emikind pet syrup.

Oflokind pet syrup.

Dose rate : As per recommended by your vet.

Also do not give food or water to dog after treatment in spite of that dog never recover from this disease.

There is no any treatment of myocardial form.

Differential Diagnosis in spite of canine parvo virus :

  1. Canine distemper.
  2. Canine corona virus.
  3. Camphylobacterioses.
  4. Poisoning.
  5. Heamorrhagic gastro enterities.
  6. Infectious Canine Hepatities.
  7. Canine herpes virus.
  8. Streptococcal infection.
  9. Heart anomalies.
